Sriman ASR was born on 6th February 1910 at Kanumolu village, Krishna Dist, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA. He graduated at Madras Loyola College, Chennai in 1933. He was greatly influenced by the works of Swami Vivekananda. He believed that a person should have sound mind and strong body. He did body building which was evident in muscular body even in his old age.

He pursued with great devotion the Yoga Sutras of  great sage Patanjali. He then a devised a unique system of count to perform yoga asanas on a mass scale. He took on the mission  of popularizing yoga asanas through out the state. He established an institution    “NAYAGURUKUL” in 1944 to train students in Yoga. The institute also was a centre of cultural and sports activities. The village became vibrant with many activities with “Nayagurukul” as the centerpiece. Many VIP’s and dignitaries came to know about it and visited the institute. Their compliments and certificates were recorded in a Visitors book. He also offered free tuitions in English and sciences for many students.

He held the position of joint Secretary Tyagaraja Gana Sabha at Eluru ,A.P for about 6 years. He was versatile man with Talent in singing , playing Mridangam and an actor and a painter. He developed his special talents with focus on  Yoga and Poetry.

Andhra University recognized his worth and appointed him as professor of Yoga course. He adored the post for one year and the entire syllabus was prepared by him. He was a very good reader of many philosophical books . with this rich background, he ventured to translate Srimat Bhagavadgita into telugu poetry, a novel attempt.

The book “Telugugitalu” in 1970 on the occasion of his Shastipurti.

He was also giving “Gita Gana Pravachanamulu”  a musical commentary on gita. He also wrote many books in poetry and on Yoga, but some are yet to be published.

He was a unique blend of modernity with deep Srivaishnava spiritual background. He was great carnatic vocal singer and excellent knowledge of Hindustani music. It was really amazing that all his talents were self acquired! He was considered as “Dharma Raju” by all. His quality of forgiveness was monumental.   

He has two daughters and a son. Out his great collections in his eventful life, we are making efforts to preserve a few items to carry on with his wonderful memories.
